What to Look for in a Diamond Retailer
Never buy uncertified. No exceptions. Self-certified or EGL certified is not acceptable for major purchases.
At least 30 days, ideally 60. The return policy protects you if the diamond does not look right in person.
Both ways. You should not pay for shipping when returning. Insured protects you during transit.
Ideally 360-degree video for every stone. At minimum, photos that show the actual diamond not a stock image.
Check Trustpilot and Google Reviews independently. Look for patterns in positive and negative feedback.
Price shown should be the price you pay. Watch for hidden ring sizing or appraisal fees at checkout.
Where NOT to Buy
- Mall jewellers with massive markups (Kay, Zales, Jared) on lab-grown diamonds
- Retailers selling uncertified or self-certified diamonds
- Sites with no clear return policy or short return windows (under 15 days)
- Sellers using EGL or other less rigorous certification bodies
- eBay or peer-to-peer marketplaces for new purchase (acceptable for resale only)
